Project summary:
The goal of the project is to develop a novel multifunctional TiO2-based magnetic nanocomposite, synthesized by direct (single step) laser pyrolysis, for the employment in water treatment of pollutants with superior efficiency since provided with recuperation/recycling abilities. The present original approach is based on the candidate’s solid expertise in the synthesis of complex nanoparticles by laser pyrolysis (numerous articles in ISI journals and successful international collaborations on pure/doped Fe and Ti oxides, Fe-Sn intermetallics, core-shell polymer/carbon- based nanostructures etc). Main objectives are: i) novel designed composite multifunctional nanostructures by a single synthesis method which avoids the long and tedious steps of the chemical methods; ii) cost-effective, recycling properties ( the buried magnetic nanoparticle is used as a carrier for the solid/liquid separation by applying a magnetic field); iii) improved thermal stability, dispersability, visible light absorption and photocatalytic properties (developing functional dense shells of syloxane polymers doped with nano-particulate anatase TiO2). The ability to link these models in harmony should lead to a new generation of nano-synthesis tools based on the versatile laser pyrolysis. It will allow the obtaining of top scientific results acknowledged worldwide, thus fulfilling objectives of the IDEI-Exploratory Research Projects PN-II-ID-PCE-2011-3.
